The HSE National Clinical Programme for Gender Healthcare is developing a new model of care for gender healthcare in Ireland. A core element of the development of the model is a consultation with lived experience experts.
This is an important survey being carried out by RED C Research on behalf of the HSE National Clinical Programme for Gender Healthcare. It aims to understand experiences of accessing, or attempting to access, gender‑affirming healthcare in Ireland, and views on how services should be organised in the future.
A separate survey is also being conducted with organisations and service providers who work with transgender and gender‑diverse people, focusing on their professional and organisational perspectives.
Participation is entirely voluntary and you may stop completing the survey at any time. Your responses will be treated confidentially and reported only in a form that does not identify you individually. This survey should take not more than 10 minutes to complete, depending on your answers.
The closing date for this survey is Friday 21st August 2026.
Note that the survey is only open to those aged 16 and over. Parents and legal guardians should answer only on behalf of the child they support and, where appropriate, involve the child in completing the survey where it is appropriate to do so and the child wishes to participate.
This survey includes questions about sensitive personal information (special category personal data under GDPR), including your gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, health and disability. Some questions are necessary for classification and routing purposes within the survey. Where provided, you may select "Prefer not to say" if you do not wish to disclose this information.
At the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to register your interest in taking part in follow-up qualitative research on the same topic, which will take place within the next three months. If you choose to register your interest, RED C will ask you to provide your contact details and will temporarily link those contact details with your survey responses, including any special category personal data you have provided. This will be done solely for the purpose of selecting and contacting participants for the follow-up research. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing geoff.tucker@redcresearch.ie. If you do not participate in the follow-up research, your contact details and the link between your contact details and survey responses will be securely deleted by 30th October 2026.
